Auditions

Who Auditions?

String, woodwind and brass players of grade four and above

Every year, the CMA team listen to each individual student play, celebrating their progress and positioning them fairly in the right bands and orchestras for their ability.  Auditions are friendly affairs, with each student playing a short unaccompanied piece of their choice. A little appropriate sight reading test later and it’s all over. No student is ever moved down a group and they are encouraged all the way!

New to CMA?

Students intending to join in September are warmly invited to audition for a place in one of our bands and orchestras. If you have missed the auditions window, we can organise something specially for you. But you don’t have to wait for September to join CMA, you can apply for membership at any time during the year. Some groups and instrumental departments can be very competitive; in such cases your place will depend on availability, the instrument you play and your sight-reading and ensemble experience. Full details can be found in our Auditions Policy. Come and meet the team and see where you might fit in. Just email the office to register.

Who does not audition?

Singing * Recorder * Guitar * Percussion * pre-grade 4

There’s no audition for you if you play these instruments or if you are pre–grade 4! You can join CMA at any time of year. Just apply online to join CMA, or email the office for advice about suitable ensembles. Why not come along for a FREE trial?
